LEARN TO FLY
The VMC welcomes those who wish to try this growing hobby. We offer
opportunities for the public to try flying with a club plane on
Orientation Days. We also offer pilot
instruction and assistance at no cost.
Those who wish to get into the hobby by doing it on their own can
find it difficult and frustrating. It has been shown time and time
again that the learning experience goes smoother and is more enjoyable
when learning from an experienced flyer and instructor.
The VMC participates in the AMA’s Introductory Pilot Program.
In the program a new student pilot is granted a 60 day free membership
to AMA and is allowed to fly at the VMC field under the supervision
of Club Instructors. After the 60 days the student may apply for
introductory membership (3 months) or a full annual membership with
AMA and the appropriate VMC dues.
In the instructional process, student’s planes may be used
or a club plane may be provided. Radios that are buddy-box capable
are preferred. The “buddy-box” allows
the instructor and student transmitter to be linked, allowing the
instructor to take control of the plane instantly if needed.
For more information contact the instructor by e-mail at vtmodelers@gmail.com.
Orientation Days –
A club plane with a buddy box radio system is provided by the club
to give the public a chance to fly after a brief ground school.
This is an excellent chance for you to try the hobby at no cost
to you. VMC has the right to decline public participation if there
are any safety concerns. Dates and times to be announced.
